  1、 Core elements of selection: matching the "three-stage" requirements of the filter press

  The feeding process of the filter press is divided into filling stage, compaction stage, and holding stage. The pressure and flow requirements of the pump vary greatly in different stages, which is the core basis for selection:

  1. Pressure range: Conventional models range from 1.6-3.0MPa, while high-pressure customized models can reach up to 4.0MPa. It can stably adapt to the "compaction stage" (to break through the resistance of the filter cake) and "pressure holding stage" (to maintain high-pressure extrusion residual water) of the high-pressure filter press, with a pressure fluctuation error of ≤± 0.05MPa, to avoid deformation of the filter plate or excessive moisture content of the filter cake;

  2. Flow characteristics: The flow regulation accuracy is high, and flow control can be achieved by adjusting the plunger stroke (5% -100% adjustable) or motor frequency, without obvious pulsation (pulsation rate<3%), ensuring uniform feeding to the filter chamber and a filter cake thickness deviation of ≤ 5mm;

  3. Wear resistance: The plunger is made of alumina (Al ₂ O ∝) or zirconia (ZrO ₂) ceramic material, with a Rockwell hardness HRA ≥ 85. When facing abrasive media such as quartz sand and iron ore particles, the wear rate is only 1/5-1/3 of that of ordinary stainless steel plungers;

  4. Self suction and idle tolerance: The self-priming ability is moderate (suction range 0.5-1.5 meters), and it needs to be pre filled with medium before starting; Strictly prohibit idling (idling for more than 1 minute may cause dry wear and damage to ceramic plungers and seals);

  5. Sealing performance: Adopting multi-layer combination sealing (such as V-shaped sealing ring+guide ring), there is no medium leakage under 3.0MPa high pressure, and the sealing life is 2-3 times that of ordinary mechanical seals.

Applicable Medium

  1. Medium type: high abrasive slurry (containing solid particles with hardness HB ≥ 200), high solid content slurry (solid content 40% -70%), not suitable for high viscosity (viscosity>5000cP) or medium containing long fibers (length>5mm) (easy to block the pump chamber flow channel and hinder the reciprocating motion of the plunger);

  2. Typical scenarios:

  -Mining: dewatering of metal ore slurry such as iron concentrate and copper concentrate by pressure filtration (with a requirement of filter cake moisture content ≤ 15%);

  -Smelting: pressure filtration of blast furnace slag slurry and non-ferrous metal smelting tailings in steel plants;

  -Building materials: ceramic raw material slurry, cement kiln ash slurry pressure filtration;

  -Other: Treatment of abrasive slurry under high pressure conditions (rated pressure of filter press ≥ 1.6MPa).

  1. Replacement of vulnerable parts:

  -Core vulnerable parts: plunger sealing ring (made of nitrile rubber or fluororubber material), with a lifespan of 300-500 hours in high abrasive media, and a single replacement cost accounting for about 5% -10% of the total pump price;

  -Core components: Ceramic plunger has a lifespan of 1000-2000 hours (depending on the abrasive properties of the medium), and the replacement cost is relatively high, accounting for about 30% -40% of the total pump price. However, the lifespan can be extended by regular cleaning (to avoid particle adhesion);

  2. Daily maintenance:

  -It is necessary to check the leakage of the sealing chamber and the wear marks on the surface of the plunger every week;

  -Replace the lubricating oil (gearbox specific oil) every 100 hours to avoid wear of transmission components;

  -After shutdown, rinse the pump chamber with clean water to prevent residual slurry from clumping and blocking;

  3. Comprehensive cost: The average annual maintenance cost is about 15% -20% of the equipment purchase price, which is lower than that of screw pumps (20% -25%) and higher than that of corrosion-resistant and wear-resistant centrifugal pumps (10% -15%). However, due to its adaptability to high-pressure and high abrasion working conditions, it has a higher long-term cost-effectiveness.

  Precautions for use: 1. Before feeding, filter the large particles in the medium through a filter screen (aperture ≤ 3mm) to prevent sticking of the plunger or scratching of the ceramic surface;

  2. Real time monitoring of outlet pressure is required during operation, and it is strictly prohibited to exceed the rated pressure of the filter press (it is recommended to reserve a 10% safety margin);

  If the medium contains corrosive components (such as pH<4 or pH>10), corrosion-resistant ceramic plungers (such as composite ceramics doped with silicon carbide) and fluororubber seals should be selected;

  4. Not suitable for scenarios with intermittent feeding and downtime>24 hours (which may cause residual slurry to solidify and damage the seal during the next start-up).
